You might be a fake if...

You have a multifunction sewing machine?  Perhaps an embroidery machine?  Maybe even a longarm?  Does your sewing machine do more than a beautiful straight stitch and several nice buttonholes?

Yes?  Gasp!

You are apparently should not consider yourself a seamstress of any kind… but a lowly crafter.  You’re a FAKE!

Did you sew yourself a blouse, but (gasp!) trash it up by putting some embroidery on it?  Or perhaps you recovered a footstool you found at a flea market, and then sewed a gorgeous pillow with (gasp!) decorative stitches on it to coordinate with your new footstool… well shame on you!

Do you design stunning wall art in the form of quilts?  Yep, you’re really a phony now.  How tacky of you!

Have you ever been to a Bernina fashion show?  Or maybe just drooled over the incredible haute couture clothing by some amazingly talented designers showcased in “Through the Needle?  Did you know those designers weren’t serious?  They’re just dinking around.  Really.  That’s not art.  Or high-end fashion.

Because they sew on those fancy new fangled machines that do more than a straight stitch, zigzag, and have more than two buttonholes.  Yep, that makes them lowly crafters.

Fakes.  Wannabee seamstresses.

Wait until I tell my husband.  He’s just going to pass out when he discovers that I will never amount to anything despite the small fortune he’s dumped on my collection of machines… I’m doomed to be a lowly crafter forever!

Puh-lease!

I would be interested in knowing where you saw/heard this. I am an old patternmaker, sewed in sweatshops on old industrial machines. Some people do not even know what they are talking about. I love my 830. It sews like an industrial, but does so much more.

It is sad that this wonderful technology isn't being experienced because of ideology. It can't be fully understood unless one takes the time to see what is involved. It is just a tool like any other.

OK, I've seen your exchanges with the "winking man" over there and know exactly what this is about. Go get him CJ!

LOL! Sometimes it's just nice to have a good rant and get it off your chest, non? :)

CJ, Don't know where you read that, but as I've aged I refuse to let other people define who or what I am. I'm by no means an expert at anything, but that's not my goal. I enjoy what I do & other people seem to appreciate what I make. I do love my 830 & if that makes me a "fake" them so be it--I'm still having fun!!
