When it rains...

it pours!

My dishwasher quit this morning.  It’s been going for a while though, wasn’t really a surprise. My parents discovered our flatbed trailer for hauling our tractor stolen over the weekend, off of our acreage in Missouri… damn thieves cut the tree down it was chained to!

If it wasn’t bad enough that I’d broken the spool holder off my Bernina 630 at the guild retreat and have had to order a replacement, the thread cutter quilt working again on my 830 so it’s in the shop for repairs… no idea what that bill is going to run.

So a rather expensive week for the Tinkle household!  Ugh!  Guess I’ll be researching a new dishwasher this morning, Jim said he doesn’t have time to install it, so I’ll probably order one from Lowes and have them deal with it, I know they’ll haul off the old one as well.  It’ll probably be either a KitchenAid or a Bosch, I’ll see what they carry.

On the bright side, I made good progress on the log cabin quilt yesterday, and will post more pictures tomorrow.  My chicken turned out wonderfully, and the apple-pecan stuffing was very good, a definite keeper!

The only modification I made to the recipe was to use my homade whole wheat bread cubes instead of whatever the recipe called for.  I cube up all my stale bread and the heels, and toss them in the dehydrator, then freeze them. Next time, I might add a bit more apples to the recipe.  I think I am going to use this recipe for Thanksgiving, but I will add the neck meat and giblets to it as well.

My advice is not to buy a Bosch. We gutted and remodeled our kitchen and I purchased all top of the line appliances including a Bosch dishwasher. The name shined bright in my kitchen but the appliance was a dud. We also purchased the high end Kitchenaid side by side stainless fridge. Two of the feezer shelves broke within a year. The next time I remodel I will go with only Frigidaire.

Sorry you had such a bad week!

Don't you just hate it when things happen like that...!!! I had to buy a new dishwasher last month. I bought a Samsung from Best Buy. Boy do I love this dishwasher (not as much as the machines in my sewing studio) it is the quietest dishwasher you have never heard. I give it 10 stars for the cleaning. They did install and would have carried the old one off..however, I had them load it into my SUV and took it for recycle. They paid me $42.00 for it. I thought that was enough to buy one more die for my GO!
Your good luck will start today!!!!!!!!!

Thieves are the worst! Sorry about the dw......Lowe's is wonderful about taking the old after installing the new! (But Marilyn trading her's in for $ for a new GO! die is just about the smartest thing ever! )

Baked chicken and dressing is on my menu for the weekend.....thanks!

CJ, I had a Bosch and loved it but my repairman told me not to buy another one because the parts are way too expensive and hard to get a hold of. He recommended the Frigidaire and I can't say I'm too impressed. I would go w/the Samsung, too and will as soon as I can justify changing again. My dishes come out clean, but sometimes they're still wet and yucky. It's quiet, though, like the Bosch, but I just don't love how it loads. The trays don't stay on the track if you pull out too far. My 2 cents on that. The dressing looked fabulous and I'll be trying that one. I may do walnuts, though, as I love them better than pecans. Could be that we have 40 pecan trees and I sick of picking them up. I have them shelled but they still have to be fiddled w/to get off some of the shells. I'd be sick about the tree. I'm sick of people thinking they have the right to steal whatever they need.. We need parenting class made mandatory in school. Way too many people are growing up w/out a conscience. Next week the tide will turn and everything will be great. Hilary

When it rains, it pours.

I had a Bosch, it died. I had a Kitchen Aid, it died. Both of these died right after the warranty expired. I then bought a GE Profile and it has survived many years with no problems. It is pretty quiet too. Just my 2cents.

I got a Maytag from Lowe's about 6-8 years ago it is not as quite as I would like but it is still running great! Good luck on finding what you want I'm sure you will be able to get it installed quickly and have the old one hauled off. Sounds like you have had a streak of bad luck!!

CJ,

The appliance industry has changed greatly over the last few years. Whirlpool bought Maytag and own KitchenAid. Personally I would by a Whirlpool but I would still research before I buy a new one. My KitchenAid worked great during the 7 years I lived in my SC house. The electronics push buttons and electronics got messed up on a few cycles but that $1200 dishwasher was quiet and cleaned great.

I have a lower end Whirlpool in my St Louis house now and will upgrade in a few years. Good Luck

Beth

CJ-I love reading your blog and have tried many of your recipes. I know that you are a great fan of the Bernina so hopefully this will not offend you. I taught Bernina classes and was an Education Coordinator for Bernina. The last Bernina I owned was the 640E. Through my work I began to notice a decline in the quality but not the price of Bernina! I have a friend who has been in the sewing machine business for 50 years. He sold me my first computer sewing machine and mentored me all through the years. Though I no longer live in the town where he has his business, I finally made the trip to his shop, sat down with him and told him how unhappy I was with my machine and issues I was having--poor quality etc. I told him I wanted another machine but didn't know what brand to look at. I expected him to direct me to the Janome, but to my surprise he told me that the best machine on the market now is the Babylock. My jaw dropped. He took me in his repair shop and told me to look around at the machines. I saw a huge amount of Berninas, a fair amount of Janomes, some other older Singers, etc. but no Babylocks. He knows how picky I am and what I expect from a machine. On his say so, I bought a Babylock Ellegante 2 and absolutely LOVE IT. The quality is top notch, it is user-friendly, and the stitch quality when embroidering, piecing, sewing, or doing free hand quilting is impeccable. I have owned many top of the line machines over the years but I have never had one this good. Please go and look at a Babylock. I predict that you will fall in love and it won't cost you $10,000 either. Jan
