The joys of having...

An engineer for a hubby who is also a master machinist!

You may remember that last month during my quilt retreat, when I went to take my Bernina 630 out of it’s suitcase, the spool holder on the top caught on the suitcase and broke off, and one side of the handle came free in the process.

Yesterday was finally fix it day!  I’d ordered a replacement spool holder, but needed to take the cover off the machine to see exactly what had broken on the handle.  As it turned out, nothing!  There is a metal pin that must have slid out and rolled to the floor at the retreat.  I was emailing a picture to my dealer so I could order the replacement part, when Jim came in and said he could make one for me in thirty minutes!

It was just that little metal pin he’s pointing to in this photo.  Thirty minutes later, I had a new one, and my baby is perfect once again!

Looks like next week we’ll be hauling the RV down to New Orleans.  I’m still trying to decide if I want to join Jim down there for the winter or not. I’m thinking the city traffic might be more than I can handle, driving wise, as I am a terrible drive and avoid cities at all cost… which means I’d be spending my days in the RV.

My recipe for Kentucky Bourbon Pie is now in the recipe section.  Enjoy!

Aren't we lucky to have hubby's that can fix anything! I bet Jim could make that spool holder spindle too. I know what you mean about the traffic. I used to drive to San Francisco or just about anyplace in the Calif bay area, but the drivers and the traffic are so bad now, it scares me. If you are close to the city, you might consider using a cab to get around, instead of driving.

Yay for hubbies who fix important things! I'll be interested in knowing if you decide to go or not; I'm sure your posts will take on a whole new flavor if you're RVing! :)

I would go and give it a try just to see something different. You might find that you could venture out in baby steps and the traffic might not be so bad if you avoid rush hour times. If you don't like it you can always come home.
Glad Jim was able to fix your machine.

Being from the area but relocated to N.C, just take it slow and easy. Avoid rush hour and you should be fine. When the sun is out, it's great, but expect lots of rain!

I think your hubby is a keeper!! LOVE fix-it guys! :-) You should go with your gut feelings on staying or RV-ing. Give it some thought and just do what feels right!

Well, I was going to agree with Karen and say give it a try. But then the wisdom of Polly came through. So . . . I am of no help. But then again, I never go anywhere so I would welcome the chance of seeing something new.
