Barn Raising
Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 9:27AM
The fabrics for this quilt have been sitting on my cutting table for at least a month, probably longer!
I’ve been wanting to do some log cabin quilts for some time… I thought I’d start with something basic, like the barn raising layout. I have Judy Martin’s “Log Cabin Quilt Book” and there are some amazing layouts in it!
My AccuQuilt Studio made cutting the one and a half inch strips out a piece of cake and very fast! I am beyond entranced with it!
I spent the weekend cutting the yardage off bolts and starching it, yesterday morning doing the strips and finally, I began piecing it. Two rows are done, there are one hundred and twenty blocks in this puppy, so I imagine it’s going to take a while to get it done.
I’ve used Kansas Troubles and Moda Marbles almost exclusively in the top, except for one of the beige prints, which is a Thimbleberries.
It’s raining and chilly out today, a perfect day to spend quilting. I’m going to roast a whole chicken tonight so I can try out a new stuffing recipe, make with apples and toasted pecans… then tomorrow I’ll make chicken soup with the leftovers.

Stuffing with apples and pecans .. sounds yummy .. I do one with cranberries and pecans ... will do taste testing
you might need to share that stuffing recipe sounds great. I love log cabin quilts and have lost track of how many I have made.
Do you always starch your fabric so much before you cut? I rarely do that.

Love your fabric choices!!! I've been thinking of a log cabin too but there are several others in line before that one. I think using the cutters is just the most fun! ;)
Stuffing.........oh how I love stuffing!
This is going to be stunning!
Let me know how you like the new stuffing, sounds yummy! I love stuffing and I am always looking for fun new recipes.
I'm doing grilled chicken breasts tonight and then making chicken soup w/all the carcasses. I love homemade chicken soup. Instead of rice or noodles, we've been putting barley and green french lentles in it for colesterol reduction. I find it's much tastier. You might like the variety. Love the LC quilt. Don't you just love the coziness of the cold front. Hilary
love the color combo
A log cabin was my first quilt and still one of my favorites. I really love the fabrics you have chose for yours, it is going to be gorgeous!
Cooking??? What's that??? LOL
Oh wow! A quilt for me!! Thank you so much!! LOL I'm telling you, though, it'd be perfect in my house! I love log cabin quilts. My first was a good ol' Eleanor Burns log cabin in a day, and I was so proud of it. :-) The one you are making is going to be beautiful.
Oh, and dinner sounds pretty perfect, too.
