Wahoooo!!!

I want you all to know I drove all the way over to Stuttgart (two hours from Russellville), picked up my Bernina 830 from the French Seam, and drove back without getting hit, shot at, or tripping and breaking my neck!  It’s truly a miracle!

That Bernina shop is just baaaaddd for my pocketbook.  Way too many samples hanging up everywhere!  I ordered the new binder, which was OMG so expensive!  Ten times the price of the industrial ones sold on Ebay, I sure hope it performs!  Plus the longer knee lift for my 630.  I guess I don’t sit close enough to my machine, so I will be grateful not to have to slide in so close anymore.  As my vision fades along with my body, anything closer than eighteen inches or so is just a big blob!  I dearly hope my hubby’s vision is doing the same!

But really, I was quite angelic.  I have been on the fence for awhile, considering adding a 430… I’ve missed my 440 like crazy since I traded it in on the 630.  I LOVE my 630, but I wish I’d kept the 440 as well.  Now I know Bernina owns the Thailand factory and the machines built there aren’t outsourced… still! I want a 430 made in Switzerland.  But I’ve waited too long.  The new ones are being built in Thailand.  The French Seam has a floor model that was built in Switzerland… I came very close to walking out with it, but on the other hand, that line is due to be revamped very soon and what if they add dual feed to the line?

I don’t need a 3rd sewing machine either… unless one is in for repairs… then I absolutely need another backup, I find it very difficult to function with one machine.

I remember feeling overwhelmed with just one.  Whatever happened?

sounds like you had a great day. I find that my little featherweight does most of my sewing for me, my janome has been sitting in it's case for several months and I haven't gotten it out to use. I wouldn't know what to do with 3 but if I won one or someone gave it to me I'm sure I would use it :) I just don't do machine sewing enough I guess!
Speaking of which I should get back to work on this little scrap quilt I am making with the charms that I bought awhile back.

TOTALLY understand. I finally got enough extra money together to take my old Bernina 830 in for an overhaul. I am thinking it needs a new motor. But it was one of the last TOTAL metal Berninas made in Switzerland and I just can't bear to call it dead yet! I did tell them to call me first with an estimate, but am keeping my fingers crossed!

So glad your trip went smoothly! I absolutely do not need another machine. Having said that, I'd love to have the 635. I adore my 630 and think the 635 would be a great back up. Please don't ask how many machines I have already. I've looked at the binder and it is very pricey. What do you think you'll use it for and did you get all three widths? I think there were three.

I think you'll be so glad you bought the binder. You sew all your binding on w/a machine so this will really streamline your process. I had the binder for 6 years. Bought it new w/the 180e and used it only in class. I just don't make too many things that required binding other than quilts. I like my quilt binding to be 2 1/4" so using a binding clip to make then I sew by hand the backside. I sold it for what I paid for it. $180. I understand they're twice that now. yikes Also, the fabric would be my "killer" for me in that quilt shop. I'm good w/machines. I still have my 180e,730e,830e and an Elna Quilting Dream w/dual feed. I use them all.

I bought a 450E last Christmas and it was made in Thailand...and it is awesome. The feel of the machine is SOLID and it purrs when it sews. I saw pics of the Thailand factory and it is no sweatshop operation at all.
Don't know about how quickly the Aurora series is being revamped but the my experience is a definite yes to the current series.
Question...why the 430 over the 450? Since you have a 630 already...why not go for a mid-range 9mm model? That way your backup to your backup has 9mm.

Am I good for your pocketbook?

CJ: Mine was made in Switzerland. Do you want me to check with the lady here to see if she has any more 430's made in Switzerland?
