The Bernina 8 series seam guide
Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 6:08AM Tomorrow I am making the 190 mile trip to my Bernina dealer, the Quilt Sampler in Springfield Missouri. I am having my BSR foot upgraded with the heavier spring kit. Mine works fine on a sample sandwich, which is all one fabric. However, it skips when I used it on a pieced sample, even when I move the needle over 2 clicks.
I’m also having my machines serviced since I’m going up. I’m taking along the new seam guide that comes with the 8 series machines, as I’m not entirely clear on how it should fit. Mine at least, does not fit like the older style for the Artista machines.
See the yellow arrow? I am sure that the guide should slide all the way through to the other side of the foot, but it doesn’t fit.
Fortunately I was able to make it work for my curtain project, but I am going to see if mine was machined wrong.

Love this site..however, any chance of using a larger font???
Absolutely! That's why the site is still in the testing stage, so I can get feedback from everyone. How does it look now?
Much better! Can you also make the fonts in this 'post' box a little bigger too? Then I can see what I'm writing! LOL
CJ - Please let us know your conclusions from having your BSR changed to the heavier spring. I would like a little more 'resistance' on my BSR foot....does that do it? claudia
CJ, I haven't tried this seam guide, but I wonder if it is on purpose that it doesn't go all the way to the other side. Since this is a D foot, would the dual feed drop down attachment bump against the post if it went all the way through the foot? Perhaps this is also why there is a screw hole on both sides of the D feet...so that we can attach the guide from both sides.
I think Sue is right - if the dual feed is engaged and the bar went across the entire foot they might get caught up with each other. Let us know what your dealer says. I'll be interested in her answer.
Okay, comment posting text enlarged as well, let me know if that's better?
Claudia, my tech is still waiting on all the parts, when the BSR foot comes back I will try it out and post my results.
My tech unfortunately had no idea about the seam guide. Other than forcing it all the way through (I now need to use pliers to get it back out) he wasn't any help with that issue. I will test it and see if the Dual feed lever works with the rod all the way through.
Much better size fonts - thanks CJ!!
My seam guide fits very tightly but I can still slide it through OK. The screw does need to be undone almost to the point of falling out to do it though.
Hubby polished mine off a bit, now I can slide it in without too much trouble.
There are a variety of Bernina sewing machines that will surely capture your fancy, not because they're very affordable but because they're loaded with all the features you're looking for your Bernina.

This mechanism makes quilting so much easier. The presser foot makes sure that you can create uniform length of your stitches, no matter the speed of your will be.
This is my first time i visit here. I found so many entertaining stuff in your blog, especially its discussion. From the tons of comments on your articles, I guess I am not the only one having all the leisure here! Keep up the good work.
